"Libby Tolley's work harks back to the California
plein air tradition. She has the ability to endow our favorite landscapes
with heightened meaning: richly romantic, sumptuously painted, drenched
with golden light" Click here to view examples of commissioned work

In addition to her own paintings, for the past 12 years Libby Tolley has created paintings on commission. Often these are works to be used for book covers and illustrations, or for art posters. At other times, Libby is asked by private collectors to paint a special locationsuch as a ranch, a mountain range, or a scene along the coast. Working with the collector, Libby predetermines the size, the format, and the medium, as well as discussing with the collector what the mood of the painting will be. Quotes from a few commissions: "Thanks for your beautiful work and even better disposition.
Anybody who can consistently make me smile as well as wield a mean paintbrush
is OK in my book." "We're especially enamored of the view of Mission
Plaza you created just for us. We may go our separate ways, but through
your poster, we'll always be able to 'take a walk with Libby.'" Quotes from a few collectors: Your work is the only I've experienced that brings tears.
Exquisite is the only word. "She's got a gift for capturing the beauty
of the California landscape in a way I've never seen. A photograher
couldn't capture what she does. There's an alpenglow in the evenings
here that she's able to reproduce. She gets all the colors and shadows." "It is our pleasure to know and work with Libby, and
to collect her work. Her work brings life to our clients' projects, and
I watch in awe as her art becomes more and more profound. She is the true
chronicler of the disappearing landscape." "We are finding great enjoyment in your 'Through Green
Pastures.' It's a rush of pleasure every time I look at it above the fireplace." "We want you to know how much we are enjoying our
painting. In fact, we like it more and more with each passing day! It's
wonderful!" "I have loved your work and looked for it since
I saw the first Mozart Festival poster of the Mission Plaza eucalyptus
trees many years ago. Your paintings have brightened our home and made
me look at our landscapes with even more fondness." |
